campaign rushed to talk about this as a political screen by mitt romney. and they didn't own up to the fact that there was a terrorist attack on 9/11. they didn't recognize it immediately as a terrorist attack. the media here have missed the story because we have allowed political reporters and not serious report -- reporters to conduct the investigation. >> some of those political reporters, they are serious people. finally what do you expect mrs. clinton will say she can get beyond this? >> i think that remains to be seen. we just don't know what secretary clinton knew, what she approved, did her political deputy protect her? did he keep information from her because he is a very political guy? clearly has been a loyal soldier to secretary clinton, so did he cover up? that's a huge question of whether or not her deputies kept things from her to protect her, or if she knew about these cables and she made the decision. we need to know these answers. >> those are the questions that the members of congress may or may not be asking when they have these hearings. rick, thank you for your time. h

.i.t. rom mitt romney? don't bet on it. the angry man or woman in the back row of the tea party, the angry one that stands up and scolds him, you betrayed us, you are one of them. do they want to be the person who voted with the party leadership or worse yet, the democratic president, or the one who voted against all of that and stayed true to the purity of the tea party dogma, no taxes, no deals, no compromises, no nothing, period. this is the wall the tea party have raised up, the wall beyond which people who captured. what they campaigned against was spending money on government, that is what taxes are. got it? and that's hardball for now, thanks for being with us "the ed show" with ed schultz starts right now. >>> good evening, americans, welcome to the ed show. i'm michael eric dyson in for ed schultz. the president cuts his vacation short to come back to washington, d.c., meanwhile, house republicans are literally phoning it in, this is the ed show, and as ed would say, let's get to work. >> this is something within our capacity to solve. it doesn't take that much work, we just have

the romney people complaining that obama got votes because he was supported of legal equality of this. i think we're on the verge of getting full legal equality. it's mostly because we started being honest about ourselves. but i will tell you one very important part of it, al, which you know. there was an effort by the right wing through the remembpublican party to marginalize this and go to african americans and hispanics and saying don't associate with those people. and i'm very proud that i've been among those who have worked hard. they have been very strong. and i think that that solidarity has been a major part of our ability to win. >> many americans look at congress and they just see gridlock. can it be fixed, mr. chairman? >> yes. in the gridlock, it's true. but it's a very spefk reason for it. we weren't gridlocked in 2007 and 2008. we disagreed with them on some issues, but, in fact, 2008, september, just before the election, i and others work with the bush administration to deal with the financial crisis. earlier that year, harry reid and nancy pelosi gave george bush a stimul

barack obama should win? >> because he takes good care of us. >> what's wrong with mitt romney? is he mean to animals? i swear, she really did ask me that. four years from now, i'll be back and have to answer these questions and more all over again because i just learned that i'm expecting a new little politico next summer. maybe next time around, alec can explain it to her little brother or sister. >> congratulations. >> thank you. >> so exciting. >> tingles. >> can we go get some beers? >> yeah. happy hour after this, right? >> 30 seconds left. let's name the child right now. >> the intersection of presidential politics and of course baseball. so, as we are in the bottom of the sixth in the election cycle, the game is tight. what about basketball, you say? the next treasury secretary car me lo anthony top paid big star hurt in this dive and had to leave the game. we have a classic for you as we relate to the fiscal whatever here in washington. >> i feel like it's going to be really interesting. >> oh, classic material. i wanted to see -- >> ridiculous. >> the queen of mean when you

rates, but mostly it was as a way to talk about mitt romney's taxes himself. and we didn't talk about much in this except for mitt romney's character and his bank account and those things. it was a sort of the seinfeld election, the election about nothing. and e president won anyway. he returned to washington, and what we have now is an atmosphere here where people can't think about big stuff, they can't even conceive of the idea of doing big things. gregg: right. >> and it shouldn't be surprising to us now that as we get down to the end and we get to the cliff itself that what everybody's talking about is shrinking the field and just doing something desperate just to patch to get by into the new year. gregg: speaking of small and cynical, let me carry that forward -- [laughter] with the remarks of senator john barrasso who yesterday on fox news sunday said he thinks the president is eager to go over the cliff because he senses victory. the president senses victory at the bottom of the cliff. now, that's a pretty cynical point of view, but i wonder if it's realistic? what do you think

to have the gop reach out to the middle class, reach out beyond their base, the repudiation of mitt romney. are they on a collision course? >> this is a rivalry welcome. i mean, bring it on! this is what the republican party needs. >> the real battle will be rubio/ted cruz because they want to say i can lock up latinos. cruz, he's a texan, he's going to come in slinging. he's going to walk in and say, marco, you're not the only hot hispanic. >> they're both trying to craft this middle class message but they're doing it in subtly different ways. i think rubio has the inside track. >> let's do something a little more top call, which is john boehner and eric cantor. even politico was saying a year ago they call for a truce, their staffs were trying to find a way to work together. speaker vote is coming up january 3rd. boehner had a bad beating in that plan b vote. >> i think the main thing that boehner has going for him in the rivalry is he has the worst job in the world. >> is it really the worst job in the world? >> certainly the worst job in congress. speaker boehner has to sit there and e

romney's economic policy, a good friend of the show. gene, let me start with you. tax increases on people making more than $250,000 a year. use that as a number. might be $400,000, half a million, a million. take $250,000. if you increase taxes, the marginal tax rate from 35% to 39.6% on that group of people, does it hurt the economy? >> well, i'm going to use estimates from the congressional budget office, which is a nonpartisan scorekeeper for congress. they found if you let those bush tax cuts on high-income folks expire at that level it would not boost the economy -- or rather it would boost the economy almost as much as if you let everybody's bush tax cuts stay in place. in other words, there's little difference in how much you would help the economy if you let those bush tax cuts stay in place for everyone or let them stay in place for most people. in that sense, it sounds like it wouldn't have a huge effect on the economic recovery. having said that, i think if you asked most economists and tax experts, all things being equal, is it better to have higher or lower rates, they'd say
